This tutorial focuses on configuring the NEURO series to allow the “MASTER NEURO” to control a remote relay connected to another NEURO unit (“REMOTE NEURO”). The user must ensure the firmware version is 1.3.11 or higher.
Prerequisites
1. Firmware Requirement: Ensure both NEURO units are running firmware
version 1.3.11 or higher.
2. Serial Connection Setup: Verify the serial connection between the MASTER NEURO and REMOTE NEURO is correctly configured.
Serial Connection Parameters
- Baud Rate: 9600
- Data Bits: 8
- Parity: None
- Stop Bit: 1
- Flow Control: None
3. Relay Card Installed: A relay card must be installed in the REMOTE NEURO.
Configuration Steps
On the REMOTE NEURO
Set the SITE ID:
- Navigate to the SITE ID submenu in the system configuration menu.
- Assign a unique SITE ID to this NEURO (e.g., 100).
Identify the Relay:
- Connect the relay and configure it. Note its relay ID, which follows the format 2R3, where:
- 2 is the relay card’s position.
- R3 is the third relay on the card.
- Example: 2R3 means the relay is the third on the second relay card.
On the MASTER NEURO
Set the SITE ID:
- Navigate to the SITE ID submenu in the system configuration menu.
- Assign a unique SITE ID to this NEURO (e.g., 101).
Navigate to Remote Command Setup:
- Go to AXON/NEURO Remote Command under the Outputs Configuration menu.

Select a Free Remote Relay Slot:
- Out of the available 8 slots (1RCX), select one that is not in use.
Configure the Remote Relay Communication:
- Mode: Select Serial from the dropdown menu.
- SITE ID: Enter the SITE ID of the REMOTE NEURO (100 in this example).
- Target Output ID: Enter the relay ID (2R3).
Optional: Set an alarm call list to be notified of command failures.
Testing the Setup
1. Test the remote relay control by activating the configured relay via the MASTER NEURO interface.

2. Verify successful communication and activation by observing the relay’s status on the REMOTE NEURO.
Use Case Example
- Scenario: A temperature sensor connected to the MASTER NEURO’s analog input crosses a pre-set threshold.
- Action: Configure an automation under the Actions Submenu to activate the remote relay on the REMOTE NEURO when the condition is met.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Communication Issues: Ensure the serial connection is properly configured and SITE IDs match between units.
- Relay Activation Failure: Double-check the relay ID and ensure it is properly assigned.
