How to Send SMS Alarms from a Davicom Cortex Using a Robustel B007702 4G Modem

Testing the Modem and SIM

1- Insert a SIM card into the modem. This should be a normal SIM card which includes texts, not a data SIM card.

2- Connect the modem to a computer USB port via the USB-Mini USB lead supplied.

3- Connect the modem to the supplied antenna and place the antenna in an elevated position.

4- Connect the power to the modem – the Power LED should be green. The Status LED should flash green and then come on solidly.

5- If you don’t have a terminal program installed download Tera Term Free from https://download.cnet.com/Tera-Term/3000-2094_4-75766675.html

6- Run Tera Term and connect to the COM Port. In settings set Serial Port to 115200

7- Type AT&V and look at the +IPR: line.

  • If it says 115200 ->  type AT+IPR=9600 then AT&W

If there isn’t a +IPR line on AT&V -> type AT+IPR?

  • If it is 115200 -> type AT+IPR=9600 then AT&W

8- Change the Tera Term Serial Port Settings to 9600 and restart the modem.

9- When it restarts type AT+IPR? and you should get 9600.

10- Type AT^SMONI {return} and you should get something like this:

The first number shows whether you are connected to 4G. If you are connected to 2G or 3G try moving the antenna to a better location. When on 4G the 13th number is the signal strength, in this case -103. Acceptable levels are between -75 and -120dBm for 4G.

You can Google AT^SMONI for what all of the numbers mean, but the last word should say CONN, which means that it is registered onto the network.

11- Type AT+CSCA? You should get the message back like this +CSCS: +447802092035 which is the SMS message centre number which you will need later in Step 4 of Section 2. Note it down.

12- To send a test SMS type AT+CMGF=1 and press Enter.

13- Type AT+CMGS=“<phone number>” and press Enter. Use international number with a + at the beginning, such as “+447836123456”. Make sure you use the “ “

14- The terminal will automatically move to the next line, which starts with a >. Type your message on the right of the >.

15- Enter Ctrl + Z to deliver the message.

16- You should get a +CMGS: nnn response, where nnn is a number.

17- Close Tera Term or any other terminal program you are running and disconnect the USB from the computer.
